abwsco
First of all we now have all of our newest additions laying but one of the little darlings was laying on the floor and now all of them including our only laying ex-batt have decided to follow suit Secondly, our elderly next door neighbour popped round today to say he was eating his lunch and there was not one but two chickens having a whale of a time in his garden! Luckily for us he wasn't particularly bothered about his lawn but was concerned that if they decided to go wandering up his drive they'd be off into the road. He did say it was funny when he tried to catch them as they didn't run off but side stepped every time he tried to pick them up. The cheeky little madams have cleared this and then flown over our garden wall as well. Should add that the bin you can see is not now there so there are no launching pads for them. Can understand that Manjula gets over as she is sooo tiny but Sherri is massive! Looks like I'm definately have to try my first wing clipping tomorrow. atsw
Doing a wing clip is a slightly nerve racking experience the first time, but having done it once it's very easy next time around. My OH does the actual clipping, I hold the chooks . We do it in the evening, usually just after the girls have put themselves into the coop. That way they are calm and don't struggle. It's much easier that way, and you can draw out the wing and have a really good look before making the cut. Don't forget, you only do one wing!
