Bokashi Bran/Layers mash

Recommended Posts

Wiggly worms are selling the bokashi bran and also layers mash with bokashi bran in at the moment. Can someone please tell me which one should I buy for my chooks?

Is the bokasi bran just for sprinkling around and the layers mash with bokashi bran the one for feeding?

Or can you feed them just the plain bokashi bran? I'm confused or do I have to buy both?

Thanks

Karen

You can feed your hens on Bokashi Bran mixed in with their pellets; it will help their digestion, I always put a handful in when I am mixing the feed. I have used the mash with bran mixed in and they loved it.

You can also use Bokashi Bran in a wormery and composter to accelerate the process.. the worms appear to love it. I alway put a layer in the bottom of our worm caddy that we use to gather the s"Ooops, word censored!"s, which go in the wormery. It never smells :)

Don't buy both. Either buy the Bokashi and mix it with your ordinary feed (I mix it with the Marriages layers mash I already use) or buy the mash with it in as a complete food stuff.

I have read on here, though, that the mash is quite finely ground and tends to get thrown around a lot and therefore wasted.

I find that a big bag of bokashi from WW has lasted me for months and months - I put a good handful into the grub each time I fill it.

It's good to keep the smell of teh poo down, in the summer I sprinkled some in the poo tray as well.

The stuff I got (the mix )is soo fine & dusty you can't tell whats what, so agree with above, I have also decided NOT to put Diaton in my mix as I have seen little dust clouds & I read it's bad for every ones lungs. so will put it in a damp porridge mix instead.

They love the bokashi as a treat anyway on its own & at least you can see what you are giving them if youy buy it separately! :)
