jimjams
Sweets my blue opington girlie seems to be unwell, for a couple of days she has been wondering around but a lot slower than usual, she has had some food and had a couple of grapes as a treat yesterday I have given here mashed up layers, and she doesnt seem interested in that today either the others are running around the garden as usual, she does not want to join in. She hasn't laid an egg for a couple of days and seems to be a little larger than usual around her tummy. Her comb is still red and standing up. Any ideas what can I do, should I bring her in the house and see what she is like???? Help please.
laurmurf
could she be egg bound? try typing that into the search box on Omlet and you'll find some posts about it, I'm sure. you can see if the symptoms match? poor girl! I hope she gets better soon, I hate seeing a chook off her grub!
moochoo
She might have a soft shelled egg on the way. This can really make them poorly. Can you bring her indoors and keep her warm? You could try steaming her vent over a bowl of hot water this often helps them to pass a softie. Even wrapping up a hot water bottle for her to sit on might get things moving. Just make sure she's getting fluids and something to eat. If nothing happens a trip to the vet might be in order in case she has egg peritonitis. This can give them a swollen tummy. I hope she perks up.

jimjams
poor little girl has peratonitus and is on a course of antibiotics and we have to feed her sugary water by syringe at least 10 times a day. With a lot of luck the vet said she may pull through but may also not make it, she is in a nice big box in our bedroom in the warma nd away from the kids and the other animals. He said try her with digestives and a little bit of some of her favourite treats to try to tempt her into eating something too. So fingers crossed over the next day or two and hopefully little sweetie will be ok, I will keep you all informed thanks for your advise and support. My little one who has claimed ownership of her is very sad and upset so lets hope my nursing abilities crossess over from children to chickens. Just remember that you did all you could - and she went in a nice warm quiet place, having had some lovely food before she went.
