Watch out guys they are after even more of your money
chelsea
this makes me so angry....poor you. I was reading an article in the paper the other day very similar to yours. These companies are still putting up direct debits when people are in credit. We paid with EDF by direct debit for years until this summer they wanted to increase our electric to £100 a month, we told them to get knotted and cancelled our direct debit and pay the bill when it comes. Its bad enough when prices are like they are and the energy companies are not decreasing their costs (like they should be!) and then they are taking more advantage of their customers. And they still make billions of pounds profit whilst there are people in fuel poverty...sickening.
Guest
Eon tried to put up my DD at the end of the summer - not only was I way in credit but according to my spreadsheet (I know I know) averaging out our costs over the past 2 years gave a monthly figure of £132 and they were putting me up from £150 per month to £205. Then I switched - took a month to go over, I cancelled the DD before the last payment and have taken a month off payments with a refund on the way - new company are taking the £150 a month again. And don't get me started on the dual fuel discount - its deeply unfair to those of us who only have ONE fuel and therefore spend a LOT more on that fuel!!! We're with Eon for gas and British Gas for electric and have never had any bother getting refunds back. I've always just rung up and asked them for it and it's been back in our bank within a short time. I've also always refused to increase the DD unless I've thought it a reasonable amount. Tiggy
we are already paying £233 a month for combined gas & electric, we do everything we can to keep our bills down. Luckily our back boiler & solar panels heat most of our water, and since having a water meter our bill dropped from £600 a year to about £ 230 (the water board refused to fit one at first - funny that )
Tiggy
we always keep an eye on the meter readings, so we are looking forward to the refund we have done so much to keep the bills down recently that I think SP need to reassess our direct debits
bronze
We've had exactly the same thing happen. I ended up hanging up on the woman as we were going rond in circles with her giving me duff calculations trying to tell me theyre right. DH says go onto the watchdog website and report it. Its obviously happening to a few people abwsco- they do this thing where you overpay during summer to get in credit so that in winter when the usage goes up the direct debit shouldnt do. But they dont seem to be allowing for the credit in their calculations so its a load of baloney
