But she is also bein abit horrible to the other chickens aswell! Is this normal? Anyway here is a pic of her its not great but as i said she doesn`t seem in the mood to pose!

Definitely sounds broody! It is normal for them to be very grumpy if anyone or anything goes near them  You need to give her a strict talking too and tell her that December is the wrong time of year! Or you could give her an ice pack wrapped in an old pillowcase to sit on. That might be enough to snap her out of it.

Yep, sounds like a broody chicken.

I tried explaining to mine that it wouldn't work as there was no cockeral. But mine clearly consider me to be a bit dim, and wouldn't believe me; just looked at me as if to say, "yeah, right, that sounds REALLY likely.... I can't beleive someone told you that AND YOU BELIEVED THEM...stupid human...."

When the weather cools down again she'll change her mind, or get try putting a bag of crushed ice wrapped in an old towel under her.

I know! It sounds really mean, but if they're persistently broody then they eat far far less than they should, etc, and particularly at this time of year it can harm their health if they keep it up for more than a very few days.

A bit of being cruel to be kind, I'm afraid: but better to cool her off as a quick "cure" than have her getting herself into a mess over a couple of weeks.

Hello,

I returned from a three day residential trip with my school to find that one of my chickens had gone broody.

I followed advice that I received on this forum: basically I spent a weekend dunking the poor bird in a bucket of water.

Sure enough - it did the trick and she started to lay a week later.

Go get her!

she is still broody! It is funny to watch her collect the other eggs in the nest box and put them togther and sit on them! She still gets vocal when i take them away bless her! I was wondering as at the moment i am haven to move her to the food so she eats (she isn`t happy with this aswell but shes happy when she is eating) if i left her would she go eat and drink? or will she just sit there and waste away?

My stubbourn little moo would just sit there in a fugg all day! I used to hoick her out into the run and shut the door! She would eat a bit and then sit outside the eglu door moaning till I let her back in!

God I hate broody hens!

Louise
