Christmas Tree woes ...any advice

Recommended Posts

I am sure that there will be some wisdom dispensed here...

I bought my tree the two weeks ago today. It was the finer needle type than I usually get. I asked the lady if this meant that I would lose a lot of needles and she said that it would be fine as long as I gave it a pint of water a day. I have not been able to do that because it hasn't drunk much water. The needles are coming off so that some branches are practically bare. Is there anything that I can do at this stage or is it just a case of having a twig on display over the next few days. I normally take it down on January 1st anyway but we are having a party on NYE and it would be nice to have a few needles on the tree for then??

Any advice would be gratefully received!

Did you cut a piece off the bottom of the trunk when you got it and soak it in water for a few hours?

I've also got a very sad tree because I forgot to water it for a couple of days when we went away for the weekend and apparently the cut end then 'seals' itself and it can't take in any water. The only real solution is to take all the decs off and cut about 2cm off the trunk again so it can take up the water. I did consider that, but my tree is well and truly decorated so it didn't seem worth it...might be worth trying for your party though?

I did saw a bit of the bottom to start off with but maybe I didn't do it enough.

I really cannot be faffed to take all the decorations off and try again. I think that I will just have to wait and see. If it is completely bald by next Wednesday, I will just say that I am going for the minimalist approach!
