Chances of a Fox

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

What are the chances of a fox coming into our garden.

We have 4 dogs that Wee all over the place :anxious: , 2 Spayed Females, 1 unneutred Male & 1 Neutred Male

we also have a large brick built shed at the bottom of our garden that's home to our over protective Border Collie, Holly.

I have also never seen or heard a fox, but i know that doesnt always mean there isnt one :wall:

foxes live everywhere. we were vaguely aware of some in the area but had never seen some, but as soon as we got chickens they came and visited by the dozen

if you have lots of dogs which stay outside during the day then thats a good precaution, but for no risk of a fox attack you will have to get a foxproof run.

We have only seen foxes in our garden twice in 10 years! We used to have a free range rabbit who was grabbed by a fox one day and only escaped by running through the cat flap

Our garden is completely enclosed by a 6 ft fence and 8ft gate so it had obviously managed to scale one or the other

Another time a fox was stood just starring from the shed roof at the bottom of the garden  We didn't have the rabbit or chickens then.

Since we have had the chickens we have found fox poo overnight in the garden by the eglu so we know they are around although we have never seen them  .

Because of this we only let the hens free range when we are around in the house or garden. At dawn and dusk they always stay in their cube run.

I feel this is a fair compromise between their safety and freedom.
