sophia_chicken
Hi, Having just got a for christmas (Lucky me !) I am planning to turn my into a rablu and have my heart set on Netherland dwarf bunnies (I had one as a girl). Does anyone else keep Netherland Dwarfs or even Polish rabbits in their Rablu? Are they happy outside? I'm really really excited about getting them but am wondering if I am better waiting til spring so they have a year to get used to being outside before next winter.... (The wait might kill me though!) Any help would be appreciated.... SOPHIA
jenuk99
hi I have two indoors, they are gorgeousbunnies tohave. If you get them no theywont have winter coats but you could always kep them inside till it gets warmer ( you can have more cuddles that way ) Jen
Hockeyaholic
I have a Netherland Dwarf (Delilah) and a Mini Lop (Tallulah) who are both outside in a rablu - I also got mine for Christmas two years ago and they're fine outside. However, like yourself, I was very aware of them being only babys with no winter coats. I did (and still do) shut them in the rablu at night to keep them safe and warm - I know some don't agree with this but frankly I don't care, my bunnies are used to it and it works for them (obviously this does depend on the size of your rabbits). Also I think as long as they're is plenty of hay and straw for them to snuggle into they should be fine. I think I also recall bringing them into our porch on very very cold nights (however our porch is still a bit cold - we didn't want to subject them to extreme temps) - or if you have a garage/shed that would be good. If not, we placed the rablu and run close to our house to try and provide a bit of shelter. I'm no expert but I guess if you can wait til it gets a bit warmer, then thats great but as someone who had baby bunnies in winter - I think as long as you keep a close eye on them and bare in mind the weather and act accordingly, you should be fine. Just my thoughts - hope it helps.
sophia_chicken
Thankyou Hockeyaholic! That does help. Its kind of what I thought, but wanted someone to say they kept dwarf bunnies too! I suppose a lot depends on whether anyone has any baby bunnies right now.... We went to a feather and fur auction at the weekend and bought some gorgeous, healthy chicks but the rabbits looked decidedly ropey and the 2 netherland dwarfs for sale looked very like dutch rabbits to me! Thankyou again! SOPHIA
The Dogmother
Personally, I'd wait until it's a lot warmer and they are old enough to be introduced slowly to the grass.
