mad house
I'm thinking of gettong some bantams but not sure on what to get. Don't want them to go broody, but want to have different coloured eggs! Probably get either 3 or 4. Any ideas?
ubereglu
You're likely to need separate accommodation for them as they are likely to get picked on by your big girl otherwise. Firstly I'd see if you could find any bantam breeders who are near you, as this will be your limiting factor to what you can have. Join the pekin bantams forum for bantams for sale, as there are many breeders on there who will have stock for sale.
Guest
I've got 2 buff plymouth rock banties and they are a lovely light caramel colour and lay lovely pale eggs.
Paola
Jo, Bob who ran the pet shop at the local garden centre breeds bantams. He has moved to a local organic farm shop. Let me know and I can give you directions
likeastar--x
i have 3 pekin bantams and they are lovely very cuddly and pretty to look at. not great egg layers but okay. mine dont go broody but i visit the chickens and remove eggs daily and i dont know if you do. it is true that sometimes bantams dont work with chickens but weve now introduced bantams to chickens twice and both times have successfully done it. geb0205
My banties are laying like crazy still!! I have 4 now, and want some more... 2 partridge wyandottes, and 2 rhode island red ones. I get atleast 2/3 eggs a day. One of the wyandottes will go broody if you leave eggs in the nest, but other than that, they are lovely little birds.... The cat is petrified of them!! I might have to send mine round so that yours can have words with them Mine stop laying as soon as the days get shorter and one of them goes broody at the drop of a hat
