4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Just noticed that the temperature reading for inside the eglu is -2.8C - poor things.

 

Does anyone do anything extra to keep their hens warmer overnight - or I am just being an over-protactive newbie?

Thanks Eglutine - I hadn't seen that update.

 

First winter with them and we are blinking cold in the house, so was a bit worried.

They will be fine, mine play me up at night so sometimes they don't even get shut in and they are always ok in the morning

 

If I am worried I give them some warm porridge before bed

I just make sure that they have had a bit of mixed corn about an hour before bedtime so that this will help them keep warm as the burn off the carbs from it. I think that birds are better equipped for the cold unlike us with their natural duvets they have. I think in the UK the temp is unlikely to cause too many problems.

They're hardy old things!! Mine push the Eglu door open in the morning & are bright & breezy in the run just like they are in the summer .... Think you'll find they huddle together in the Eglu & keep each other warm - that's what mine do. They look really cosy

Thanks for all the advice - they seem to be coping ok. All snuggled up when I check on them when I get home and nice and perky in the mornings.

 

The superglug had frozen when we got home this evening - around the edges of the water and the nipples - hoping that they had enough water today and will come up with a cunning plan for tomorrow!
