bokbokbok
I need to rant. I have had two Tesco Broadband accounts since 2006. One at work, one at home. The internet they provide is fine - never had a problem with it until I realised I am paying dear for the work access - they promised they would give me as high as I could get on the line - but I am stuck at less than 2mg when I could have between 10 and 20mg. (Have tested the line 3 times today and each time it has come above 8mb - more than four times what they are telling me is the best they can give me.) So I tried to cancel it with the reason that they aren't giving me what the brochure promised. Wanna see it? Nope - as I had *upgraded* to WIRELESS less than a year ago they wont let me out of the deal. If I want to walk away before May I have to pay £100 termination fee. I am not going to give them money for something I haven't used so am going to sit it out and have that internet in the meantime. Am huffing about that one. In the meantime I decided to terminate the home account - if I can't stop giving them money on one account I will stop with the other account . . . Just rang them to generate my leaving code (MAC CODE) and the girl calmly announces that I have £125.40 outstanding! WHAT? I pay by DD! How? WT???? It seems that SEVEN MONTHS AGO my debit card expired and *I didn't contact them to tell them the new expiry date* and they now have a policy of RINGING the customer when they default instead of emailing OR CUTTING THEM OFF! Cutting me off would have got my attention! But I have never answered the phone. Funny that - seeing's how I work for a living and am never at home. I have had to pay the £125.40 by card to be able to walk away from this account - I wonder how long they would have let it continue on had I not phoned in to cancel? I never once had a problem with Tesco (in case you are thinking of joining them) until I wanted to leave. On one account I would have to pay for NOT using them and on the other I have had 7 months of using and NOT PAYING! Thanks for listening! *feels slightly better now*
Cinnamon
Similar thing with me & Vodafone still ongoing. I used to get Broadband via a USB stick with them, as it was the onlt Broadband I could get. But it broke 3 times, they cancelled the stick PLUS my 3 phone accounts twice when a direct debit didn't go through (their fault), and they have twice tried to charge me £2000 for useage, when they had already admitted in writing that they had charged me the wrong amount. I got highly fed up, so when the new neighbour managed to get BB with BT, I jumped at the chance to get it too. Phoned Voda on 15th Dec & told them they were pants & that I wanted to cancel & that as I had had so much trouble,I would NOT be paying a cancellation fee. They agreed. But a couple of days ago I got my bill, & they haven't cancelled the contract. Phoned them, they said they would have to find the phone conversation I had when I was told I could cancel with no fee & they would get back to me. I have not heard a word from them I would seriously consider dumping them altogether, but we can't get any other signal in our village, so its Voda or nothing for our mobiles As far as I am concerned Bokbkbok, if tesco have not adhered to the terms of the contract, you should not have to pay a leaving fee. I certainly wouldn't! Cancel the direct debit. At least you can do that - if I cancel my Voda USB one, they will cancel all my phone contracts too! bokbokbok
Seriously - companies with more than 3 staff answering phones suck! (Sorry to anyone here does this for a living!) My husband has a mobile phone shop and he doesn't do Vodafone and takes great pleasure in telling customers why not! I haven't pursued the work-Tesco since their last email - but I suppose I ought to. My father-in-law is great at writing this sort of letter but he is playing nurse to his wife at the moment and I haven't wanted to burden him. If anyone else would like to word it for me - please feel free although Sarah, I don't think "You are PANTS!" is going to get me anywhere! Willow
You need to be careful how you phrase your letter if you are 'cancelling' a contract because they haven't delivered. In particular you need to be careful you don't use the word cancel. There is a great article here that explains how to word things http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2006/dec/15/consumeraffairs.consumerpages (I saved the URL as it looked like something I'd need sometime but haven't yet)
