A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I have a Fenning Black and a Mendlesham Blue. I'm still no wiser after much asking and internet searching about what the breed background is of them. Are the blacks from Black Rocks at all? And what of the blues? Gamebird
I believe the Fenning Black is the same as a Black Rock, Miss Pepperpot and Bovans Nera all crosses between a Rhode Island Red and a Plymouth Rock. The Mendlesham Blue is the same as a Bluebelle which is also a hybrid but I'm not sure of the mix. They called her a Blue Haze where I bought mine from. Hope this helps. helenmb
I suspect that your two your are querying are just different names for similar breeds such as Bluebelle (Mendlesham) and a Pepperpot (Fenning). My Bluebelle is a Cuckoo Maran and Rhode Island cross - she is quite big - looking at your photo on your signature is your Mendlesham Blue the one on the right - if so she looks very similar to my Bluebelle. I think the Fenning Black is similar to the Omlet Miss Pepperpot so is a Rhode Island Red crossed with a Maran and a Plymouth Rock. Is she Blackish with gingery feathers around her neck and head, if so she sounds very much like a Miss Pepperpot type. Although I stand to be corrected. Lots of different breeders use the same parentage but give their own hybrids names connected to their farm I think your two come from a breeder called Fenning and Baker Poultry of Mendlesham - you could try and contact them as they are sure to know. I found this web linkthat might also help. Must have tried to post at the same time as Gamebird so you might have a bit of duplication of info sorry!
