Do Silkies moult their head feathers

Recommended Posts

Hi

We need some advice. Our white silkie has lost all her head feathers virtually overnight. She is currently broody and has previously (back in November) had a mini moult losing all the feathers from her wing pits (shoulders/elbows).

She doesn't seem to be bullied and is eating and drinking well.

A picture will follow tomorrow.

Can anyone suggest any causes for just the loss of head feathers?

Thanks

I hope so, or I have a cockerel with a premature balding problem :lol:

Indiana looks SHOCKING at the moment, with a huge Friar Tuck style bald patch, which has been sprayed with purple spray & clashes magnificently with his orange head

He has started to get some stubble now & I am sure that he will be back to being full headed & proud soon , as in the photo below. :D

He is a Poland rather than a Siklie, but I am sure the principle still applies.

Some pictures of Pootle. I haven't seen any evidence that she is being pecked, so if she is it must be happening inside the eglu whilst she is broody.

She seems perfectly happy, so I'm not too worried. Would appreciate some advice based on these pics though - should we be worried?

This is what she normally looks like:
