its nice to see someone with lots of houses around them too :) i was worried when i got them that people would complain, the only 2 people to mention them say they don't hear them hardly, what little they hear they enjoy! and its addictive my neighbour has 4 too!

Well i never noticed the houses at the back look really close in the photo but they have huge gardens much bigger than us so they are quite far away..

But our neighbour doesn't mind as they have 2 chickens..

They look lovely, love the shower curtain too :D

It's not a shower curtain..

I bought the fabric/pvc stuff from the range at £3 a metre and it had 10% off..

And i just eyeleted it myself.. (Don't know the correct term for eyeleting!)

It was very simple and cheeper than the shower curtains I looked at before hand.. Also the shower curtains weren't 3m long so wouldnt cover the whole run.. Oh and I eyeleted the middle of it too so when it's sunny i can pull it back and just hook it to the middle and the end just attaches to the other end.. - Hope that makes sence..

I can put up pictures if you want to show what i did..

But I quite like it as you can see them and it lets the sun in..

Fab!

No it's no problem i'll get on it tomorrow..

I suppose it can help others with doing it this way too..

..

I had a good day today apart from feeling rotten..

I held every single one of them today!

Betsy is awfully noisey! I went to check on them through the eggpost before closing the door and she flew out onto my arm so i put her on top of the eglu so i could grab her and she ran off in the dark well i thought i was going to be out there a while but after chasing her about for a couple of minuites i grabbed her and she was being very noisey my neighbours must of thought i was hurting her.. But as she was out she was being very vocal so i hope when the time comes to letting them free range she isn't this loud otherwise i will have complaints!

Ahh.. Well.. at least they are all safe.. I need to get there wings clipped soon as i hope to let them out soon! Karen the breeder said to keep them in the run for 10 days but i want to let them have there freedom.. How long did everyone else keep theres in for..

I kept mine in for a week, and then let them freerange. i got them one sat and let them freerange the next sat. We had to clip their wings that day as Shirley immediately flew up and over the netting  . They've settled down alot now they've started laying and gained weight  .

Hi Abi, I love your pictures they are fab and the girls are very very pretty, good choice.

I let mine out after 7 days and clipping their wings wasn't as hard as I imagined but I did need a little help so you may need your mum or dad to hold a spread wing or snip with the scissors, i found a really helpful topic on here about wing clipping, it's a sticky so you should find it easily.

I wouldn't worry about the racket Betsy made last night she was probably very frightened and shocked herself by leaping out to run around in the dark

I see what your mum was talking about re your garden it's very nice, I'm sure with a little free ranging it will remain that way too.

Thanks for sharing your pictures, it's all looking amazing!

HI AbigailGrace,

we did keep our girls in for less than the recommended 10 days  too: it was really hard to keep to the 'rules'! I think it's recommended because it's important to print on the girls minds where home is, where safety is, and where bed is.

It's also useful for you to train them. We got a small metal container with a lid that we'd shake before giving corn for a treat. This turned out to be vital when the girls got scattered around the neighbourhood by a dog attack and we had to find them again. They recognised the sound of the shaking tin and came out of their hidey-holes!

Like mostin, I would really recommend trimming their wings before you free range too: it's amazing how high a chicken can jump-fly!

I love your set-up and hope you enjoy these chook-wrangling! Just don't forget your GCSE revision too!

By the way, if you would like to meet up with other Yorkshire Omleteers, we're arranging a get together in May: have a look in the 'get togethers' thread for details.
