rosalyndavies
Can anyone recommend any good books relating to keeping chickens, hens, eggs etc? I am also interested in books for children.

Chillicat
Hi My favourite books to do with chickeny things are: 1. Choosing and Keeping Chickens by Chris Graham ISBN 978-0-600-61438-8. Very easy to read with some great pictures. RRP £12.99 2. The Complete Encyclopedia of Chickens by Esther Verhoef ISBN978-90-366-1592-1. A must have. RRP £12.99 3. Eggs - 150 Great Recipes - Alex Barker ISBN-13: 978-0-7548-1719-2. Excellent pictures and instructions. RRP £9.99 and of course...... 4. Keeping Pet Chickens - Johannes Paul & William Windham - ISBN 978-1-84286-103-5. I think its £6.99, but look in the Omlet shop. Its a brillant beginners guide and a great reference book too. Happy reading.
Hen Watch
Similar to what Chillicat has said, I have Keeping Pet Chickens - Johannes Paul & William Windham which I think is your best bet for children to read as it is very easy to understand with lots of pics and not too much info overload. I've got Choosing and Keeping Chickens by Chris Graham too. Excellent also. I also subscribe to Practical Poultry Magazine each month. However it is a real mix of articles for the beginner but also in depth stuff re: poultry club/show/breeds etc. http://www.practicalpoultry.co.uk/
Redwing
'Hen and the Art of Chicken Maintenance' is a comedy read but that has a few little tips in - its a very funny read of the ups and downs of chicken keeping
jill the potter
I also was bought 'Hen and the art of Chicken Maintenance' as you say more of an 'hentertainment' it had me laughing out loud at some of the antics with which I related to some. Not sure about 'factual' chicken books. I reckon here is as good as any book!!!!!!!
Suzy
I got Henkeeping for Christmas too - and that's been useful but I'll agree that this forum is better than any book for advice and information. And, if you can't find what you're looking for, just ask and someone will always be along to help with a bit of advice.
