star
Hi, I'm thinking of buying an eglu for my rabbits. Does anyone have any opinions or advice. It would be for 2 rabbits. My concerns are size, rabbits chewing plastic? Any advice gratefully recieved. It's alot of money to spend without research. Thank you Star
Falkor
Where do you live? There might be someone local to you who has a Rablu so you could have a look!

SAB
I had rabbits in Rablu (now home to guinea pigs) and they loved it. I know there is a lot of controversy amongst rabbit owners re size of sleeping area, with some rescue centres not liking to rehome to a rablu - these folks have clearly never watched rabbits in rablu - they can bound about the run and stand on hind legs just as they are meant to do, and generally can't do in hutches. The sleeping area of rablu is smaller than suggested by RSPCA for rabbit hutches, but (other than some excellent rabbit owners who allow their rabbits out daily or have big run area attached) many rabbits spend considerable amount of time in hutches without being able to get out and about, where in the rablu they can come and go when please. In the wild rabbits sleep in small areas in their burrows. I would recommend a big cover (either from Omlet or shower curtain) over run on rainy days so they can still get out and about. Lots of bedding keeps things toasty warm for them (even in our cold and driech Scottish winters)! One problem which may occur if rablu on grass is that they may dig out (and possibly predators dig in) but this can be remedied against by having on slabs, or using wire floor (see omlet shop) if on grass. star
Hi sab, Thanks for info. Another concern is how easy it is to chew it, as mine quite like to eat anything plastic they can get their hands on!!!!
SAB
It is such solid plastic I think it would be beyond their lifetime to chew through the house and the smooth design means a lack of corners to get teeth into. As for the run, they may manage to chew the plastic coating on the mesh, but I would think it unlikely they could manage to chew through the mesh itself (after all it is made so foxes can't). star
Hi, Thanks for the info, lots of good advice. I just have to get my head around the price now I think or look for a second hand one! Still looking at wooden ones too, I have weigh up everything before buying as this will be cage number 4 for them!!
SAB
Prior to having a Rablu, I had a rabbit in a wooden hutch, which it chewed through and managed to "unrepair" numerous repairs! That convinced us of the economic sense of a Rablu as we could have kept on going through numerous wooden hutches! Omlet do reconditioned ones for a bit cheaper than new, but to be honest the Rablus can sometimes be picked up at good price on ebay/preloved/etc (as opposed to Eglus for chickens which seem to sometimes go almost at full price on Ebay!)
