cherryblossom
Hi all, are there any breeds that are more prone to having double yolkers? Thanks.
Egluntyne
Funnily enough we had our first double yolker in ages today. I'm not sure that any particular breed is more likely to lay them than any other, but they are commoner in very young hens, new to laying, and older hens approaching the hennopause. Margalot
I was just about to ask a double yolk question! We had a really big egg form Midnight our Blackrock.....(only had them 2 weeks and she started with a 58g egg and then we had a 68g egg!) Well OH had ham Egg and chips for tea last night and there it was the big egg was a double yolker! I was so eggcited! I have never seen a double yolker before, and was going to ask how often this could happen? My OH thinks Im too obsessed with the eggs and chicks.......have to weigh every egg etc etc! Will she continue to lay doubles??
Ain't Nobody Here
Unlikely, I'm afraid . I've only had 2 double yolkers in 18 months . Tell your OH you can NEVER be too chicken obsessed . If he's not interested, just tell all of us .
Margalot
Oh what a shame I thought that Midnight was going to be our goose with the golden egg too How come that a local farm near me sells double yolkers? how do they know? Do they hold the egg up to a UV light or something? Baffling?
