A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I've seen these on the craft blogs, and given that I never have a bookmark to spare and have a zillion paintchip cards from decorating the house, I've converted some of the paintchip cards into bookmarks. To make them you just pritt stick a pair of them back to back. I've used a pair of the same colour, and stuck them the same way up. Then bradawl or punch a hole in the top and push a skein of embroidery thread through the hole, doubling it up and knotting it near the top of the bookmark. Then tie a little bundle-knot at the other end, and fray it to make the hangy-out-of-the-book bit. I like the idea of having different coloured bookmarks for books of different moods. Dark brooding greys for Jane Eyre and sunshiney yellows for Armistead Maupin and the like. They're virtually cost-free to make too as you can pick up the paintchip cards in most DIY shops for nothing.

SAB
Great idea! Puts me in mind of when my daughter was really small, my then husband had left us, and we were totally skint - my parents Ruby Wedding Anniversary came and we had no money to get a present. So....we went to the local DIY store and got lots of paint chips in various shades of red and made them a big collage - it was a great success and fund to do with my daughter who was toddler at the time - my folks really appreciated it and used it as a backdrop for all the expensive red themed ornaments they got as presents. A chickychickychick-ENN!!
That's lovely SAB! Sounds MUCH better than rubies proper! I have some cockney friends who celebrated their ruby a couple of years ago. I was skint too, so made them a 'ruby murray' (curry) gift basket - korma sauce, chutney, rice etc. If only someone could think of something similar for diamond weddings! Ygerna
I had lots of those cards in a drawer. I am going to see if I can find them and get the children to make some tomorrow as the school is closed again because of the snow. thanks
