margotthechicken
Hello, this may sound a bit mad, and I may sound a bit thick, but, I have gone out to my ladies this morning, let them out in the snow, and there is a young male Pheasant in the outdoor run with them. He won't go away, even when I enter the run and stand next to him. I'm wondering if he's a bit confused, hungry or has he designs on my girls, he does have a bit of a glint in his eye!! The ladies aren't bothering with him, but he looks a bit of a cad to me......do I need to be concerned, do I need to lock my girls in their enclosed run? Please help!!! enpekt
We've had pheasants for years. They come for an easy meal, and in the main remain aloof. Males make a hell of a racket cuckoffing as they fly away, or up to roost. Females quieter, apart from the drumming of their wings. A privilege to share... ...and certainly worth the feed! Moorhens are something else!
margotthechicken
Thanks, I agree they are lovely, we too have had them for years, the record is seventeen females in the garden at once in 2007, sadly that has yet to be repeated. I was a bit concerned as I'm new to Chickens, and I was thinking about cross contamination etc, and I have never been so close to a Pheasant before, they are usually quite skittish, so to get so close was a little suprising. David&Sue
Quite funny watching our Cockerel and a male pheasant eating side by side in the run and looking at each other between mouthfuls - neither not knowing what to do
Old Speckled Hen
Our garden used to be visited by the most handsome green pheasant. He was such a wonderful colour. Chooks used to share their food quite happily. Sadly I haven't seen him for some time now.

Groovychook
We have lots of pheasants visiting our garden. They come to hoover up all my wild bird seed. During the snow, we had Mr P. and nine of his wives! I once caught five of them on the bird table.. two of them had wedged themselves under the roof and three were perching on the top ! The chooks tend to keep their distance... it would be a different matter if one of the pheasants were to venture into the run...
