pinkmagic
We had some eggs in a very basic incubator. The temperature has been all over the place and I really didn't expect any to hatch. Today is day 25 and I nearly disposed of the eggs yesterday but my son begged me to leave them another day or two. This morning we woke up to find one has hatched. I didn't order any chick crumb when I ordered my hen food as I really didn't think they would hatch. Chick is still drying off in the incubator but really don't know what I can give him when he comes out. I can't drive so I order all my feed on line, has anyone got any suggestions? TAJ
day old chicks can go 24-48 hrs without feed, so get ordering quickly. That is why they can be taken around the country from hatcheries easily at day old, but not after that. Give water and hopefully feed will arrive tomorrow. Egluntyne
Have you got a brooder for the chick? Ordinary hen food is unsuitable, so a s TAJ says, you need to place your order right away. Read up about chick rearing whilst you are waiting for the food to arrive. Have you got a chick drinker ready? If not, put a few marbles or similar in whatever shallow receptacle you have handy, so that it doesn't drown. It will also need some non slip flooring on the bottom of the brooder.
