What do you put inside a quilt?

Recommended Posts

It depends on how much you want to spend really. For childrens' quilts I like to use organic cotton batting/wadding which is light and warm, and easy to machine or hand stitch. There is also non organic which is cheaper and it is still possible to buy polyester batting/wadding.

You need to be aware that cotton/natural wadding will shrink, how much depends on the ratio of cotton to polyester in the mix. As said above, you can get polyester wadding which may be better if there is a need to wash it regularly. Or you could use fleece. It makes a lovely, cosy blanket and no need for extra backing - just stitch the patchwork and fleece together round the edge, right sides together, then turn right way out and top stitch round the edges before quilting. I'm just finishing off my second one made this way - they are lovely! :D
