catherinej
I have 4 sumatra chickens lodging with me at the moment and they have started laying eggs this week. Problem is I don't know if they have been vaccinated and therefore I'm not sure if it's safe to eat the eggs. All the birds look well in themselves. Does anyone know if they would be safe to eat? Thanks
Ain't Nobody Here
I got my 3 girls from a local farmer (who breeds chickens) and when I asked if they were vaccinated he laughed . So I guess we've been eating eggs from unvaccinated chickens for 18 months. We're all still here to tell the tale!
Snowy
The eggs are fine from unvaccinated chickens - especially as they are ultra fresh. Vaccines are more critical in the intensive poultry farming industry as disease is more rife. If your girls are healthy, the eggs are fine. LJ's Chooks
Its good advise from Snowy Howells.... I guess at the end of the day, none of us can be certain about vaccines... it's not as if anyone gets a certificate with a chook. As long as the girls are healthy then it must be fine.... oh and our eggs never seem to hang around for more than a couple of days with out friends or relatives snaffling a few ... oh and of course all the lovely recipies that i keep finding on this site.... its impossible to stay a size zero and have chooks!!!
