Smeg
Hi, Not sure if I should be worried or not. Onion (layed 2 eggs so far) has spent most of yesterday and today sleeping upright in the garden. the others are foraging around and running about but she just snuggles up and sleeps standing then eventually lies down snoozing. she's still eating and drinking at intervals and seems to look fine - eyes, legs etc is this normal or should i be worried? thanks sue
Plum
Like you I would be worrying. Hope she picks up. Have you checked her over and looked at her crop, vent etc?
Smeg
Hi Plum, Thanks for the reply, i have picked her up (she's not strugging at all) i felt her crop and all seems fine and checked out the vent - seems ok. I got in just now and she's already in bed so did a once over again - seems fine. i held out some mealworms and she gobbled them up so i don't think she's too ill. This morning she came out of the cube with the others but when i left for work she was again standing in the run sleeping. I've added some tonic to their water today in the hopes it would perk her up. i'm still worried though as she's already in bed whilst the others are running around very energetic looking for their treat. any suggestions would be much appreciated. I'm hoping I just have a lazy chicken I have a cat that sleeps and eats and does nothing else! x
chelsea
has she been wormed recently?
Smeg
Hi Plum only had her 2 weeks so don't know - i'm going to my local supplier after work tomorrow to get worming stuff so should start weds with that. they have flubenvet & vermx not sure which is best but will get one and give it a go. when i closed the door today i went into the run and notice a couple of yellow runny poos (only 2 - the rest seem like normal poos !) so maybe worming will help. your advice is much appreciated, i've only had them 2 weeks and they are already a part of my family if you know what i mean and i do worry ! x
chelsea
Most of the forum members rate Flubenvet, verm-x is a more "natural" wormer and not a lot of cop really. (false economy as most people who buy verm-x then go on to buy flubenvet)

prudance
Hi, I have a sleepy and slightly scrawny chicken too. Have checked the usual suspects. I'm half way through worming so I'm hoping that she'll pick up. Someone posted to my topic saying that they had one just like it and she gradually improved as she got older. Fingers crossed for both our sleepy girls then
Smeg
Hi, I got home after collected the flubenvet (start using it tomorrow) & as i approached the run i couldn't believe my eyes! one happy perky chicken bouncing around shouting for treats! she's a different chicken. i'm still going to start the flubenvet tomorrow though - can't hurt anyway but i'm so pleased and relieved. She's a bit timid when i approach but ate some rice and seems like a "normal" chicken again. good luck prudance i hope yours perks up. x
