GilesC
Help!!!! I have recently bought two new chickens to replace one which has died and my old chicken is being very horrible to them and she is forcing them into the Eglu in terror. What should we do? likeastar--x
This is the act of the pecking order. I havent personally had this problem but you need to allow the chickens to have their own space and somewhere where they can hide. After a week or so it will die down and hopefully the new chooks will have the confidence to venture out. Eglu runs are small so the eglu is the only place to escape from bullying chickens! AJuff
I'd send your existing hen out to freerange and allow the two newbies to be confined into the eglu run. That way they can relax and familiarise themselves with food and water etc. We used to close the eglu door and leave the side off the eglu for the older girls to lay their eggs. It really depends on the weather and the age of you girls.
Redwing
If you can't let the single one out I saw a brill idea of using bamboo canes pushed through the sides of the run to make a divider so the hens could see each other but not get at each other. You would need to make sure there was water and food in both halves and remove the barrier at roosting time though.
Hen Watch
Hi Josh, Have you seen the FAQ section? There are 3 different posts about introductions but thought I would put the link in for this one as it has good pictures and ideas about separating off the eglu run. viewtopic.php?f=42&t=12688 Good luck.
