Feeding advice for bantams (one broody, one moulting)

Hi there,

I was looking at the Eglu run conversion kit and run extender on the Omlet shop and just wondered how easy it is to move an Elgu when you attach this?

Anyone able to comment?

If you have nothing on the top of the run bar a tarpaulin for shade, it's fine, a bit of a fiddle but fine.

 

If you cover it with corrugated plastic sheets, it's an absolute **naughty word** to move as I found out a few weeks ago when I decided to change the hemcore in the run. DH has now made me a long-handled gadget to scoop the hemcore etc towards the door so it's easy to remove with a metal dustpan (which I was very happy to find in Lidl yesterday !!)

I've got the Eglu run with converter + extender so I think that totals 4m. Have no probs moving it about.

I have the eglu plus run plus converter (with corrugated plastic sheeting on top ). Have to say, we find it a doddle to move although I need help from ES! We take one end each and move the whole thing sideways onto the lawn, leaving the run free to rake over and sort out. I only do that every 6 weeks or so.

I was in independent mode & did it on my own.......to my cost! Will have to go & measure mine, DH put our own extension on it (which is heavier weld-mesh anyway) and it's covered with 6 sheets of plastic....I think it could be nearly 4m long That would explain why I find it such a job & a half

Hi there

 

We have an eglu with convertor/extn and move it around each week with no difficulty whatsoever. We're also able (2 people) to lift the whole run on end to clean underneath the eglu. It isn't at all heavy to move -mine's on a slabbed patio and we use bark chippings in the run - Im just considering a sliding board on wheels (making it) which would allow me to move it more easily as there's a risk of grazing the eglu if you drop/drag it.

 

We also have a 2nd eglu which we use for 'holidays'. Transport it in a trailer and assemble with our chicken sitters -quite easy and doesnt take long.

I'm sure I saw a photo on the forum recently of someone who had their whole eglu and run on wheels . Can't for the life of me remember where it was though .

It doesn't, will scrub that thought.... ! Good for moving around though if that was your issue

I'm assuming it's for ease of movement rather than cleaning! It would certainly keep your grass from being ruined!

I found it impossible. Far to heavy for me to cope with on my own. I got my two sons to do it for me.

Glad it's not just me, I thought I was being a wuss having read the "no problem" posts above , though actually reading back, most bods do have help !!
