Gerty & Flo, one week on...

Recommended Posts

here are some pics of my 'Chicky Girls' one week on, to reassure those who are concerned about their new ex batts. A weelk has made the world of difference to mine.

Here they are together, eyeing up the neighbours. There have been a few spats, through the net, but nothing serious yet. Gerty ( smaller, with green leg ring) seems as though she could put up quite a fight if required!

Gerty gets stuck into some porridge! They like to stand in this, it must make it taste better

Flo has a bit of a tidy up - sorry this one's a bit dark, think I had my finger over the flash! There's Ada at the other side of the net.

So they are doing lots of 'chickeny' things now, starting to preen, scratch, squabble... They look so much happier than this time last week.

Gerty has discovered the fountain drinker today and can't leave it alone!

they look great, one day has already made a huge difference to my girls, they have been moving around (all be it not that much) and eating the grass in their run, they have eaten although I still havent seen tthem drink, they even took themselves in to roost tonight. They are very freindly to handle which has suprised me a lot, we are totally smitten (although I have no idea which one is which, where did you get the leg rings?)

I got my rings from SPR at Fontwell, but I expect anywhere that sells chook stuff would have them. Have yet to bite the bullet & catch mine to attach them, well actually it's a case of make sure that DH is around so he can wind the rings on whilst I hold the hen - can't see him wanting to do it the other way round somehow

Barkisland, are they difficult to attach?

The leg rings are just plastic spirals - they wind on very easily. I'd recommend you do it at night when they are sleepy, one person to hold the chook, the other to wind the leg ring round the leg. You can also get some ring shaped ones that just click together like a bangle.

Electricbarbarella I got a pack of 18, I can easily spare you a few. If you pm me with your address I'll pop them in the post to you (if you'd like some).
