Alternatives to shower curtains?

Recommended Posts

Has anybody seen any alternatives to using shower curtains to cover the Eglu run?

I've read some people are using some plastic roofing that's still bendy... any pics?

I was looking for a slightly neater solution though  maybe a permanent cover like a pergola or something?

I neeeeed a walk in run but can't afford it right now. Argh! :wall:

One of the forum members ANH has a smashing pic of some corrugated pastic over her run, I will see if I can find a link.

I have a clear tarpaulin over my run which is fine, its held on with bungees and very sturdy

Sorry the only pic I have of mine is a snowy one but the tarpaulin is clear (honest!)

Either solution is good!

Someone recently mentioned about a permenant structure over the Eglu but the general feeling was that wind and rain could still drive in sideways, let me see if I can find a pic of that too......

Thanks for the reply. Do you let yours free range too? I have a run with converter and extender which I think totals 4m. I've been keeping them in there and not free ranging as they wrecked the garden! :P

Still - do you not find it difficult to clean or do you just lift it all out the way?

What do you use for bedding since it's covered?

Thanks. :)

I have the converter only but find it hard to clean the run so I take off the Eglu once every now and again and reach in with a rake from both ends. the girls spend most of their time at the door end and I can rake this over daily easily. I use woodchip as bedding with big handfuls of Aubiose thrown in once a week for dry things up a bit and the girls work it in!

I love the Eglu but not the tunnel-like run so am planning a walk in run for the Eglu instead which will make life easier.

My chickens get very limited freedom behind an Omlet netted enclosure about once a week, otherwise they are in the run all the time - thats another reason for the walk in run.

I couldnt find the pic of the Eglu with a structure over it but it was a short legged pergola type of thing with a roof on it (polycarbonate I think) someone else had their Eglu next to a wall and a pull out awning over it which looked good.

I'm glad someone else has posted my corrugated plastic picture - I can't get teased for it now :lol: .

Chris, to clean our run I get ES to help and we take one end each (having removed the slabs on the skirt!) and lift the whole thing sideways onto the lawn. That leaves the run totally free to dig over and re-Easibed :) .

Not for much longer though, walk in run here I come :dance: .

I am another ANH follower!!!!:D:clap: (we should pay her commission or something!)

I have two sheets of corrugate plastic and it is great! Keeps the wind and the rain out, lets the light in and I can see my girls!

I started off with just the Omlet summer shade - it doesn`t cover enough

Then the Omlet winter shade - it doesn`t cover enough and IS SO DARK

then Clear shower curtain - just didn`t like the look of it!
