Lydia
If its any consolation neither of our hamsters ever got the hang of the jam jar thing either (both males). They each preferred another corner of their homes and went there instead. We tried putting the jam jars in that corner with soiled shavings in but they just changed corners Perhaps its the equivalent of decorating the rim of the toilet....... Anyway enjoy Humphrey, they're lovely little things hamsters. We've got cats and to be honest they never showed much interest in Marius, our later hamster who shared their home for 3 and a half years, and they were quite young and into hunting at the time. They do show interest in current resident rodent, Duke the Gerbil, though but I think that is because she is up and about more during daylight and give them ideas, whereas Marius was active mostly at night. Just tallied up our pet count - 37 (not counting the army of hedgehogs that visit in the warmer months and get fed at ours)!! To be fair though the stickinsects and the fish mostly take care of themselves save for the clean outs.

Ain't Nobody Here
Yay . We've had "toilet issues" with Oscar too . I bought a nice triangular "potty" which he used for a while but then decided to wee in a really annoying section of his tubes (which dripped if I didn't clean it often enough ). We've got him going in a slightly more convenient tube now .
