our two girls GNRGNR have been with us six days now we did the obligatory keeping them in the run and house (green eglu) for the first 5 days of having them and was at work 9-5 so we didnt see much of them during the day  . we let them out for their first experience of free ranging in our garden and they loved it only thing is our smaller one has abent back end we have only been getting one egg they werePOL when they came so we figured she could be egg !egg! bound and kept a close eye on her today, being our first chickens it all learning we have read loads of stuff but no mention of bent tails any where. anyway she eggsmerelda layed her first egg !eggbrown! after much sitting on the nest today, while henrietta was out playing has anyone heard of this before?? :?:

Hi

I'm not 100% sure, but I think if tails are bent low (not sticking up in the air) this could mean that she feels poorly. When one of mine is going to lay a soft egg her tail will hang low and she will look hunched (soft eggs can make them feel poorly). Once she has laid the soft egg after 20mins she will be fine again.

Hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge will be along soon.

Hi ya,

To me she looks fine, our girl Rosie's tail always curves over quite a bit, they can move them around just like a dog really. A low tail as said above can mean they feeling poorly or sometimes they do it if they don't like the weather like rain or wind. Have a look at our photos. Rosie's the little red hen (gingernut ranger).

Her spine does look as if it's bent doesn't it? Did these girls come from omlet? If they did I think perhaps you should email the photos of that girl to omlet and ask their advice.

Edited to say: Read cluckbok's post after I had written this, perhaps bent tails are more common than I thought.

:D Our girls GNRGNR did not come from Omlet. They looked and acted fine on collection only the day after on their first stroll out did we notice bent tail. Thought at first she might have been roosting up against side of Egloo. However its still bent. She has laid !egg! twice since we got them, days apart both times small but good !egg! eggs. The other GNR hen is a lot bigger, laid !egg! in the back seat of the car on way home (in the carry box) and has laid every :D day since, beginers luck no doubt :D .
