Ms Marple
I am hoping that the MAJOR talent that peruse this forum on a regular basis may be able to come to my rescue. It is my parent's golden wedding anniversary towards the end of next month and I still don't know what to do. Originally, I tried to organise a holiday for us all in Rome - my mother has always wanted to go to Rome. However they weren't keen as my dad has had two knee ops and really needs a hip op too- hence can't get around very easily. They were worried about the amount of people- especially as it would be nearly Easter etc I remember going to my grandparent's golden wedding - the whole village were there!!. With mum and dad it is not the same as they have moved around from country to country a lot over the years and I really don't know who many of their friends are Do I just organise a family meal? As an only child, we constitute a pretty small family! Any bright ideas that you may have to get me started would help - even if I have to leave a bigger event until the summer I am most cross with myself as I was trying to be uber-organised about this last year and now look at me! Ain't Nobody Here
It was my in-laws 50th in August. They are a very small family too so we just went to a local hotel for a meal with their 2 sons (one being OH), 2 daughters-in-law (one being me!) and 3 grandkids. Then back to theirs for a cake and huge bunch of flowers. They were very insistent on no gifts. They aren't party type people at all and were just happy to have us all together for the day. We took some lovely photos and presented one to them in a nice frame for Christmas. Good luck with whatever you decide .
Guest
have you asked them what they want to do? They might not want a big fuss. Some people don't like things sprung on them but you know your parents better than me obviously what sort of things do they like, apart from holidays? bigmommasally
How about taking them away for a weekend to a country hotel in this country, maybe one that has lovely gardens that you can wander round without it being too taxing for your dad. That's a good idea - Thank you I will have a bit of an explore. Anyone been to somewhere good ? I know very little about my own country really. My mum and dad met in Morecombe in 1958 - he's Welsh and mum is Irish.
Dodge
**This** is the perfect place for your weekend away. Fantastic hotel with amazing facilities and gardens to die for, top notch food with service to match and it is located in North Wales very near to Llandudno. I have eaten here a lot over the years and have never been disappointed. Afternoon tea in the drawing room is a delight. If you are looking for a first class experience that will never be forgotten, then this is it.

redhotchick
My OH took me to http://www.northcote.com/ as a birthday treat. It was lovely. Very relaxing. or how about http://www.devere-hotels.com/our-hotels/carden-park/the-hotel http://www.devere-hotels.com/our-hotels/herons-reach/the-hotel http://www.brook-hotels.co.uk/hotels/cheshire/chester/mollington/mollington-banastre-hotel/ http://www.chestergrosvenor.com/ Lots of hotels (all over the country) offer combined meal and accommodation breaks at good prices. Maybe something like this? http://www.readertravelholidays.com/results.php?ht=11 Mini cruises can be nice and relaxing, the drive to Harwich or Newcastle may not be so good though. I did a couple of these trips (more than) a few years ago, the buffet dinner was lovely. http://www.dfdsseaways.co.uk/Relaxing_Getaway_Short_Breaks/Mini_Cruise_Breaks/Mini_Cruise_Breaks?tduid=169cea4f3c8bab2a5a76b481fb5b225d Something different (in June) http://www.chesterzoo.org/Home/Events/June%202009/Elephant%20and%20Primate%20Evening.aspx Do they have any interests? jenuk99
Your not far from me, for my gramp's 80th we went on a narrow boat from Marple it was a restaurant boat and they served a three course meal as we chugged along the canal. It was lovely but is not a weekend.
