just wonderd how offten you need to clip the chickens wings?

be grateful for a reply.

I've only had to do it once, but I think you have to do it again if they have a moult....

 

I am sure someone experienced will be along shortly to put us right!!!!

That's right quickcluck. The primary feathers are cut on one side (to achieve that off balance feel) and don't need to be done until they grow back, which as you said is after the next moult.

You may find that after their moult they are so used to not being able to fly that they don;t even try. Also depending on the breed your chicken may not have a full moult (ie hybrid / pure breed). My girls had their wings clipped initially but I haven't worried since they have moulted as after a nearly 2 years of not being able to fly (and from being very young), they seem to have lost the inclination!

My girls had their wings clipped by the farmer when I got them. 18 months later we've still not had a moult so I've never had to do it (yet!)
