Big girls in a cube run!

Recommended Posts

Hi all, my new cube arrives in a week :D I've currently got two big girls and am planning on getting two more - probably blue egg layers grin!

How many big girls will be comfortable in the standard setup, ie cube plus one metre, ie two metres floor space overall including under the cube?

Since the foxy footprints appeared on my eglu they won't be freeranging unless I'm there to supervise so I need them to have enough space.

My 4 adopted Orpies came in their cube with just the standard run, and they all have bald necks! This is down to being enclosed in too small a space & getting bored.

Since the've been with us they've free-ranged much more & now have a massive walkin run to share with 3 smaller chooks (see walkin run thread!) & are showing signs of regrowing their feathers thank goodness!

Give them as much room as you have space for, and the finances to provide. I'd say 2 big girls in that space would be plenty if they are to be shut in for long periods.

Hope this helps,

Sha x

Hi Leccy B! I get really confused moving from one to another!!

We've prepared the ground this morning and it looks great. I've more or less decided to phone omlet on Mon and order an extension - I'll feel totally happy that four will have enough room then - my big girls are used to having the run of the whole garden and I'd feel rotten if they were cooped up more - I'd worry that they might bully new girls once they're all moved in together.
