This would only work in a secure run environment unless you find a way of attaching a door but i had the idea of turning this into an extra coop http://www.snugspetstore.com/smallkennel.asp since i have spare plastic roosting bars with making a simple wood frame for underneath it and a wood box to make up the rest of the square could attach a plastic bowl as a nest box would mean taking everything out to clean but a cost effective way fo getting another coop quickly. on the door i am gonna cut mdf to size of door and use basically a giant elastic band to hold it onto the coop until i can think of something else. I really want 2 silkies as well as the four girls am getting but i dont have enough sleeping area for them and can't afford another eglu at the moment.

I am using one of these:

http://www.valueland.co.uk/Plastic-Dog-Kennel-Shelter-P00165729/

at the moment for temporary accommodation for our 3 new girls. I've got the wooden roosting bars inside and it's attached to an eglu run that we have. We've had to rig up a door for night time and it's all a bit Heath Robinson, but they seem quite happy and have been laying since they arrived on Saturday.

This only cost about % delivery and it came really quickly, was easy to put together and seems to be waterproof.

As the kennel is attached to the eglu run (with bungees) I think that it is fairly secure so the door is only a sliding up and down piece of plastic that has holes at the top for ventilation.

Will try and post a pic later on. The whole thing is rather cobbled together but will do for a few weeks before we integrate them into the big walk in run and cube.

Looks guid, it's handy to have spare room! Coops can be very expensive I am working on hubby to get a walk in run 9ft[L] x 6ft [H] x 6ft[W] I will be using wee pink dog kennel when silkies are ready I couldn't afford the cube but man they rock need a lottery win  will be interesting to see if the other girls move from the eglu to the pink kennel wouldn't that be a kick in the face lol Thanks for the pics

We're using a redundant wooden rabbit hutch at the moment with an eglu run. OH has put our spare eglu roosting bars in one half and made a nest box in the other. He also attached hardboard to the mesh door to make it a bit snugger at night.

I do like the pink dog kennel though.

That is a great idea I mean it already has a darkened room so to speak for them to lay I too have a spare rabbit hutch hmmm lol i built open plan cages for my guinea pigs it's now 8ft long split into two and has an upper lever of almost 2 1/2ft squared up top and just as the Guinea pigs have taken over the house the chickens will take over the garden lol The rabbit hutch idea is fab and easy to get into. Guid Job x

Oh! and I got the go ahead on a walk in run found aviary panels on ebay for £11.25 each and they do doors for £19 as well so ordering 12 of them and a door delivery is £29 for upto 15 panels although you need to contact the guy directly coz ebay was trying to charge me £348 delivery as if lol

once i manage to get that together i will have a run woohoo i am not slabbing underneath although i do have a very large already slabbed area i could use only it is directly in front of my livingroom window. then i am still left with what to put on floor after i have just forked out for woodchips for other area of garden :?
