Treating a wooden house

Recommended Posts

We have a second hand wooden ark which desperately needs treating / preserving, I don't think it's been done for a couple of years by the look of it.

Because it's the only hen housing we have though, it needs to be done all in one day if possible - can you tell me:

a) Whether this is possible - clean out with detergent and water, let dry, treat with wood preservative and dry, all before the chooks need to get back in there to sleep?

b) Which wood preservative should I use??

I guess waiting for a hot summer day would be best, but I really wanted to do it ASAP on a dry day since we're also building a shed conversion run to attach to it around the same time and need to get THAT sorted ASAP!

Thanks in advance!

Laura.

When you wash it out have you got a shed or garage that can accomodate it while it dries - it will dry much quicker that way which will help

I would do the wood preserving bit outside obviously though, use a pet friendly wood preserver (most will say safe for plants and animals on the label)
