Single hen

I was wondering if any of you use manual (reel mowers) mowers. I am considering ordering the German made Brill mower and ditching the petrol powered, John Deere, beast that I have. Hoping that some of my friends from Omlet would share their experience.

Oh i remember my dad having one of these types of mowers when i was a child - what a blast from the past!

 

Must say i think it depends on the size of your lawn, if i remember it always looked like very hard work to me!

They are making a modest come back here. The new ones are supposedly better then the old, heavy, machines our parents had. I went ahead and ordered one. It will be good and exercise and good for the environment. I will keep you posted how it works out.

I saw a news report on these mowers making a massive comeback in popularity. Would be good to hear how you get on.

 

Do you have to sharpen the blades?

The kind I got (arrived today) does not require sharpening for 8 years of use. I will keep you posted and maybe a few pics of my yard. I am anxious to try it out, but of course, it is raining...

We had a little modern one when we had a small lawn.

 

A.b.s.o.l.u.t.e.l.y wonderful, amazing and just so easy - no mucking about with electric flexes

I actually think it cuts the grass better then my power mower. It really didn't take much longer and was less work on the slopes in my yard. I am very happy with it. Pictures to follow soon...

I really like the sound of that: we've got a little patch across the road from us, which is steep etc: I keep toying with the idea of a sickle to try tog et it under control (am concerend that my legs remain attached to the rest of me though....), but a non-powered mower sounds pretty cool!

Brilliant, thanks for that Redwing. I've put it on my 'when I've got a spare £50 I want...' list. That'll be the one that just keeps getting longer...
