kitchens
I am so cross. My hubby phoned me this morning to tell me he had been clamped this morning. He went to the Cafe for his usual Friday Morning Fry Up He usually parks on the road, but a shop across the road was having a delivery this morning so he parked round the corner in a customer car park for a carpet shop. When he got back to his van he was being clamped and had to pay £150 for it to be removed. I know I am biased because he is my husband but at 7am in the morning he wasn't stopping customers from parking outside shops they want to shop in. Its almost like they know people who go into the cafe will park in this particular car park and so they send the boys round to put the clamps on. Its almost entrapment because if they really didn't want people to park in their car park, they would shut the gates at night. Daylight robbery. Takes me 2 weeks to earn that money. bluekarin
That is ridiculous! I think clampers and their fees are a form of extortion. Were there notices about? Have a look at this link http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/t_wheel-clamping_on_private_land.pdf
Guest
if there weren't clear notices warning of the clamping then you've got a case for appeal. If there were clear, visible signs then it's tough I'm afraid
Plum
There's no reasonableness in the world of clampers and speed cameras.
kitchens
Thanks Bluekarin. I'll print that off to let hubby have a read. I'm so cross!!!
Guest
Those clampers make me sick. However, apparently there are new laws coming out which will quash many of them who are making quick money. My finest and most satisfying hour was when i owned a VW Beetle and got clamped, by a non-official clamper. Luckily the VW Beetle has 'hub caps'. It gave me great pleasure to pry off the hub cap with a screw-driver and pull it out, which then left me space to put in a socket wrench and free the hub-nuts. Then i let down the tyre and jacked the car up, took off the deflated wheel, and exchanged it for the spare. Then it was an easy task to ease the deflated tyre off the clamp I then had the pleasure to take the said offending clamp back to the owner of a taxi rank, dump it inside the shop in front of a room full of customers and announce ' I believe this belongs to you?' I then got back into said Beetle and drove off The Police did visit me, but thought it was hilarious, and nothing was ever done
rosie
Go for it, Damien Just made my evening. Thanks
kitchens
Thats so funny Damien. You know what though, Hubby said they must have made about £700 yesterday morning alone. They obviously know that the cafe attracts the so called 'illegal' parking. Its out and out theft in my eyes
Guest
That is outrageous Kitchens. It does anger me too. And i bet hubby wasn't all that illegally parked on the face of it. That's why i hate shopping in Ipswich and have to be desperate, i rather go to Felixstowe a few miles up the road where parking is easier. In Ipswich there are yellow lines everywhere to encourage you to be ripped off in multi-stories or parking bays. You would have thought that with the economy like it is they would encourage small businesses and shoppers with easier and less rip-off parking. But No, they have to be greedy.
