Hot Cross Bun Recipe?

Recommended Posts

I made some hot cross buns today from an Ocado recipe I downloaded. It didn't make much sense though :? . I've checked the omlet cook book and can't find one there.

Does anybody have a good one, with eggs in that they like?

I tried the Lakeland one and it needs (IMHO) a bit more cinammon and a bit more fruit. Having said that I also used a square pan as per the instructions but mine was a touch too small. Then a further complication was the cooking instrucitons which said " Bake in moderately hot oven for 10 minutes, reduce heat to moderate and bake for a further 15 minutes" As a fairly new Aga owner this confused me a bit as I had it in the Roasting oven but then the baking oven then back to the roasting oven.

Bottom line is they don't LOOK very nice - I kinds rushed the crosses as well as it was getting late and I wanted to watch Casualty (hey what can I say - I'm a 40 year old single mother and it's the only fun I get on a Saturday night!). BUT they do taste delicious except what I said right at the beginning - they would be better with more fruit and cinammon.

Anyway this sounds very long winded but its a good excuse before I show you the picture!

I use Delia's recipe for Breadmaker Hot Cross Buns... the dough is made in the BM, then you shape the buns and bake them conventionally

When looking for that recipe link I saw she had another hot cross bun recipe too...

I've just had a go at making some, using the recipe on Netmums that I posted before. There's pictures on my blog here http://welshpurpletree.wordpress.com/2009/04/06/hot-cross-buns/

Like I say in my blog post, the dough didn't seem to rise very much, but they tasted yummy. I will have another go.

They look very nice, yum yum. I'm really hungry now after looking at all these fab pictures of buns  .

I just had the last 2 of the Ocado batch of hot cross buns I made this morning, so I will be using one of the above recipies for some more for the easter weekend.

I tried the same recipe again but used 3x as much cinammon and an extra 100g of fruit.

I also just made them bun shaped and they are YUMMY - I'll add a pic later when I've downloaded them.
