tidygirlsuk
.....could the eglu be placed in full sun, with door south facing, or would chickens get to hot. I want a pernament spot b4 i get the new girls. there is another spot but the door would be north facing and i remember someone saying they would never have a coop north facing again cuz of north winter winds ect.... Ain't Nobody Here
I think that should be fine. Presumably you've got the sun shade? As long as they have a good bit of shade from the sun, they should be OK . (It's not like we ever get a huge amount of sun anyway .)
tidygirlsuk
Yes i've just bought the colour co-ordinated sunshade. My eglu is second hand and the lady b4 has put that clear plastic all across the run, to protect them from the rain, would it be like a green house. And Yes, i know what you mean,'what sun', lol
tidygirlsuk
sorry to go on about this but with the run facing south, i find the summer shade offers little shade with the low winter sun, does anyone have more advise on this please, i just want to get things right b4 i set up pernament spot which i may start tomorrow. thanks
Hens@HalfMoonLane
I've covered mine with a navy tarpoline less than a fiver from Wickes. This is in addition to the sun shade. We have fixed it with tie wraps at the Eglu end and elastic hooks on the other two corners, it comes to about 2/3's down the length of the run.. It provides plenty of shelter, is strong and cheap. At this time of year if it's a sunny day I pull it back either at one corner or both. It provides plenty of shade for my south facing run. Egluntyne
Mine do. With an adequate shade it shouldn't be a problem at all. A couple of years ago, when there was a heat wave, I did drape the Eglus with old duvet covers and soaked them with water, which evaporated in no time, to cool things down a bit, as the garden was like Death Valley. Not likely to be a regular necessity in this climate.
