putting fertile eggs under my broody pekin

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a cube with extension and four pekins. One of my girls is VERY broody and so I was thinking of getting some eggs to go under her.

would she be able to stay in the cube until the eggs hatch?

Could I partition the cube and have her and the chicks in one side and the other three in the other side?

How old do the chicks have to be before being seperated from the mother?

Any advice on breeding would be great.

I used a rabbit hutch to hatch out my eggs. One of my pekin girls is such a broody girl. She's gone again this year and spent most of last summer brooding away on nothing!!

You will then need to move them on to something more suitable but you can cross that bridge when you get to it because (a) it depends on whether you hatch large fowl or more pekins, (b) how many hatch and © if they are boys or girls. I have to say I'm glad I did it. You could always rent a small eglu until the chicks reach maturity when they will be able (once introduced properly) to join the others.

Spring is in the air :D
