Nicola O
I just heard a loud squark, looked out to see Lily fall over the lip of the run door. She is standing on one leg occasionally, but is putting it down and still moving about, although with a pronounced limp. I've checked her over and can't feel an obvious break, but there is a teeny tiny drop of blood from under one of the leg scales. Could she have caught or 'lifted' the scale as she fell over the run edge? I've given her a couple of Arnica pillules, and I'm ing that it's just a twist or sprain. I'll have to leave her to go to work but if she's no better when I get home I'll ring the vet. Poor Lily.....she's only been laying for two months and is currently on her fourth broody spell ....perhaps this will take her mind of being broody for a while. chelsea
Oh dear, sorry to hear about Lily. You've done exactly what I would have suggested - checking the leg, arnica etc. Usually with minor leg injuries they recover quite well without much attention. Just keep an eye on her and like you say if she looks like she's in a lot of discomfort pop her along to the vet. Im sure she will be fine. sandyhas3chucks
lets hope she just bruised it, hopefully she will be limping less when you get home!
Nicola O
OK, panic over... checked her a few times and again just before leaving for work and she is walking almost normally, and obviously feels well enough to get up the cube ladder as she is now in the nest ready to spend the day sitting on everyones eggs. Bloomin chooks....I can't believe the panic this morning watching her fall over and then limping to badly, and now she seems fine.....they are such a worry aren't they. dancing cloud
Good news about Lily . My Daisy is limping at the moment after landing awkwardly on Wednesday jumping off a perch about a foot high . Like you, I had a panicky check for anything major and could find nothing, and the limp is much better after a couple of days. She still took herself back to bed in the cube this morning, just to be a nuisance to those wanting to use the nestbox, but she certainly managed to come running quickly enough when there were grapes to be had! Glad to hear Lily is better . I don't know about mine - one limping, one doing exorcist chicken (see post about Moon) and it's not even the weekend yet!
