A chickychickychick-ENN!!
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/apr/27/rspca-abandoned-animals-recession Which is bad and sad. They say it's 'affecting pretty much every animal'. My hens and dog have both cut back on eating to avoid the bailiffs. I have to say I still have no sympathy for the RSPCA, but feel hugely for Battersea who do a sterling job.
kerryegg
The thing that concerns me is the number of dogs being bred for sale particularly those by people trying to make money. I know there are an awful lot of good pet owners but do puppy buyers really consider that the dog may live 10 to 16 years. And if you do have to give up a pet please don't just abandon it on the road. There are organisations who can help. I know non of the readers would ever do this. I don't know what the answer is but feel pet spaying should be provided free by vets who must make plenty of money from us pet owners. Yes I do have a dog in addition to my hens and over the years have taken in several stray cats, with associated vets bills.
tiggerlady
The lady that comes to trim my dogs said there was double figures of st bernards alone in a shelter within 25 miles of here(cant remember where exactly ) I can sort of understand it .but on the other hand not..it must be like selling your grandma! Our animals are part of the family and I would rather eat beans on toast for tea every night than let any of my animals suffer due to vet bills or food bills! jackiepoppies
I would rather have sold my old battleaxe of a grandma (rest her soul) than any of my pets over the years Jx
