Hi fairygothmother, Im a newbie too but i have made porridge. I just make it from the normal pellets and add boiled water and it turns into a mash. Just a couple of handfulls. I also add poultry spice now and then to give them a boost. Make sure its cool before giving it to them tho!

I dont know if there are any other 'recipes' but hopefully we,ll find out soon if there is :D

Mine go absolutely mad for it so i give it as a treat in the afternoons now and again, not everyday or they wouldnt eat the normal pellets, picky devils.

We put all sorts of stuff in their porridge - depending what is around... Make it from the mash left at the bottome of the grub, and then add any of the following:

Poultry Spice

Marmite

Garlic

Bran

end of packet cereals (bran flakes normally)

porridge oats

Peas or sweetcorn (or both, as Fred likes peas but Ginger likes sweetcorn  )

Chopped up leek/cappage/spinach or any other veg lying around

Grated apple (they don't like whoe apples...) or other fruit

Melon pips (they love those...)

raisins..

chopped pecans

Meal worms

Corn...

You get the idea! If they have already had lots of treats that day, then the porridge doesn't have many "supplements". If they have been confined all day and eaten lots of mash already, then I put more treats in.

They love rumaging around in the mash to see what treats are hidden away... The mash goes all over their faces, and normally all over the patio where I stand it too. They soon hoover it all up though!

Garlic powder, the horse type, you can get it from any horsey type shop. Not the granules though as they are too big.

(I've been reading up too much I think!)

Exactly - it stops the smell down in the run / eglu as stops their poo smelling too much. really works! I put a teaspoon or 2 in with their dry mash as well - and really it notice when I forget for any reason.
