Haltonshappyhens
Hello, I have had enough of a cheaky chuck who, every single time I clean out the nest box and put nice fresh straw in she follows a nano second after and empties the entire contents - so she and her buddies have to lay their eggs on the cold eglu plastic.. Why does she do this and how / should I stop it. ?. everyone seems happy and are laying every day.. its just as their mummy I like it to be cosy and welcoming for them.. but thanks to Sage it never is... Does anyone else have this problem.?. they have plenty of room to free range and all do plenty of scratching around outside .. but this is really beginnning to annoy me.. Ain't Nobody Here
There's nowt so queer as chooks . Don't know why they do it . She might well stop some time but I suppose you're stuck with it till she does .
Budgies
Both my hens used to do that initially, and then began eating whatever we put in there. I'm afraid we gave up in the end and they laid on the plastic! We rarely had a broken egg despite the drop!
C&T
One of ours didn't like straw, and we now put Hemcore in there. They still take some of it out (I think just to prove a point!!), but they leave enough to cover the plastic...
