Dawn-Dave
I'm not sure if i have posted this in the right place We are abit worried about one of our Bluebelles Violet. We have had our girls for 4 weeks now, who are all 22 weeks, and all seems to be fine with the exception of Violet. She has only ever laid the one egg (which i'm not too worried about) and a few softies. The worry we have is she is very scatty and we are unable to get near her, when we let the girls out to free range Violet paces up & down the run as if she doesn't know how to get out or where the door is. Her ears (if thats what they are called) are a very pale pink (almost white) in colour instead of the red colour like our other 3 girls. Are we just worrying over nothing or could there be something wrong with her. She is eating and drinking and we don't let them free range or have treats until the afternoon so we know they have eaten sufficent layers pellets. i work shifts and this week I am on evenings so have kept an eye on her eating and drinking and has no problems at all. She is not bullied by the other girls so we have ruled that out, she has all her feathers and her vent seems fine. Please any advise would be appreciated as i don't want any of my girls to be suffering & we not know about it Dawn
Egluntyne
It sounds as if she is a little younger or less mature than the others, and therefore still a bit skittish.
Dawn-Dave
I do hope you are right Egluntine as she I'd hate for there to be something wrong with her. We are going to keep an eye on her and hopefully we will beable to feed her by hand and pick her up like our other girls. Thanks
Tweety
It doesn't sound as if there is too much wrong with Violet, and as long as she continues to eat and drink normally and doesn't show any signs of illness I wouldn't worry. Some hens just don't like being picked up and it may be that Violet is one or, as Egluntine says, she may just be a bit younger than the others and will settle down in due course. katieadams
One of our girls Butterfly doesn't like being picked up, we get nowhere near her she runs off as soon as we approach, and the other two positively enjoy it - she's always been far more skittish, I think it's just her personality

Omletina Kyckling
Some chickens are never as keen on being picked up, two of my girls won't let me near them and it takes two of us to corner them to pick them up, then when we do, they just freeze. Freja, one of my crested girls hasn't let me near her in about 8 months! Britta, my other crested, follows me around like a little lost soul!
