KateG
We're going on holiday mid june, for the week. We intended to get the girls after this but it may work out that they arrive before. (End of May). What should I do? How do I go about finding hen sitters? If a family member were to see to them for me, would they need to be on hand late evening and early morning? (I don't have any hens currently so have no idea myself!)
katieadams
Omlet have a sitters list - or post on here roughly where you are and I'm sure someone near you will help out! The list is here: viewtopic.php?t=9487 Edited May 5, 2009 by Guest
seraphine
We're in the same situation, we get ours on 26th May and then go away for a long weekend on 26th June, followed by 2 weeks in away in August. I think we're planning on asking our next door neighbours daughter to pop in morning and night to open the Eglu and put the food/water out. As it's only for 3 days really I'm happy for them to be in the run for that amount of time. However when we're away for a fortnight in August they'll be going to stay with someone (not sure who yet ) as I won't want them in their run with no free-ranging time for that long. Do you have a neighbour you could ask to pop in?
KateG
Oooh list. Thank you for that! Calling Windy wendy..are you around to assist? Failing that, I'm in Kettering, northants. We're going June 13th, back late the following Saturday.
katieadams
Oh I've just thought - there is now a google map with pins in of all the sitters! I think you just google 'omlet sitters' and bingo! I'm going away for a fornight this year and I've arranged a friend will come every morning to do food and drink, and another friend will come and stay at ours at the weekend to let them out and clean the out for them. They weren't hard to persuade, I just told them they could collect the eggs when they came! I don't need them to come early or late, because we leave their door open so the chickens can get up when they want and they put themselves to bed too so very easy! Omletina Kyckling
Kate - I could come and do a couple of checks/putting to beds for you if it helps, or if a family member/neighbour does it, you can give them my 'phone number so if they have any problems at all, I can call down - I'm only 15 minutes away!! I'm sure we can sort something out!
KateG
Diane, that would be a massive help as Mum said she's happy to do some but can't come over every day - thank you so much for the offer.
Falkor
Why not send them on holiday themselves?? Eglu and all?
Omletina Kyckling
Why not send them on holiday themselves?? Eglu and all? I don't think Kate is getting an Eglu with attached run (her dad is making her a walk in run) otherwise I'd be happy for them to come here and I could look after them.
