aaronmusgrove123
My silkie is broody everyday but i normaly just take her out of the eglu and she will stop but today she wont leave the nest box and thers no eggs anyway i was wondering if i got some fertile eggs and let her hatch them would she just as broody in 3 months or will it get it out of her system for a while, or will this make her worse once shes had the taste of raising young ?? Thanks aaron
Egluntyne
It won't necessarily make her worse, but there is a lot to be considered before you take this step. like have you adequate separate accommodation and what will you do with any cockerels that hatch. There is an article **here** about managing broody hens that you will find useful
HENthusiastic
Not to mention whether you will be able to cope if you get weak or deformed chicks that need 'dealing' with. I am currently hatching, but I put an awful lot of thought and planning into the whole business. The more you think about it, the more potential complications there can be. Think carefully. Especially as this may not even stop her brooding again later on.
aaronmusgrove123
all that isnt a problem because to get my silkie i had to hatch them using an incubater i was just wondering would she settle down more ie less broody less often
Budgies
I've never heard of a case when letting a chicken brood discouraged it from doing so in the future. If she's a good broody she'll remain so, whether she sits on eggs or not I believe.
Phosphorus
I used to let Gemma sit it out on wooden eggs for the duration of her broodiness - never put her off - most reliable broody I have None of my other girls would oblige at the drop of a hat
