they're eating my blackcurrants!

Recommended Posts

My girls are making a beeline for my blackcurrant bush to a ridiculous extent now, to the point where I can't let them out unless someone can be on red alert beside the bush (which is hardly ever :( ). I can keep them away from everything else ok, so I don't need meters and meters of netting, just something to keep them off this one bush - any ideas what I can do to keep the cost down?

Naughty blackbirds are the culprits here - I got some enviromesh a couple of years back to protect the calabrese - it has found a new home draped over the currant bushes (I only have 3 - one blackcurrant and two redcurrants). So far I have caught a couple of hoverflies (released) and there are loads of greenfly underneath it - yuk!
