We have survived our first broody!

Recommended Posts

Well after a very long 5 days of removal from nest and using the "naughty cage" while the others were laying, Sophie is back to normal today and has laid an egg again. She is no llonger making a mad dash for the nest when I let the ladder down and seems a lot more settled again. Having experienced a broody hen for the first time I now feel much more able to cope when it happens again, I must admit having read some horror stories I was beginning to wonder whether we would have the dreaded chicken who remained broody all summer etc etc. Just waiting for the next one now

I know the feeling of satisfaction at having dealt with a broody hen, I am a relatively new chicken keeper and had the same a couple of weeks ago.

I know what you mean by the 'mad dash' back to the nesting box, I found 6 very warm eggs under her the first time I realised she was broody! I had to dunk mine in a bucket of water a few times, but it sorted her out!

Chickens are such fun!
