Preans

Recommended Posts

we have just walked from home to sunny Saltburn-by-the-Sea. it was lovely :D

anyway, on the way back we walked through the allotments (they have chickens and we were hoping to see some :D )

on our "chicken hunt" we met this man and his wife who had an allotment with about 20 chickens on it, he invited us in and showed us his "girls", he also had a buff orpington cockeral 8) and a good selection of "girls"

as we were leaving his plot he offered us some plants :D

one pumpkin :D

2 dark red sunflowers :D:D

and 2 preans 8) these are a cross between a pea and a bean, and seem to be from ireland we found this preans linky thing

we are hoping that we will be able to save some seeds and "spread to word" or seeds :D

has anyone else heard of them??

I was going to say no.......then I looked at the photo - I took a photo of a flower just like that on my peas yesterday!!! Perhaps it has mutated by itself?

I hadn't noticed them in the Heritage Seed Library either  - I'll have to try some next year.

Fascinating.

I love broad beans so I guess I'd like these.

Did you notice this on the link you posted? :D

originally from an Agricultural Research Station in Ireland, came to the Heritage Seed Library via the Saltburn Allotment Society.
