Our 6 month ex- batt henniversary

Recommended Posts

I've put together a little gallery of the first 6 months of my 3 ex-batts retirement. Since November 2008, they have eaten an entire backgarden, laid 453 eggs, seen the heaviest snow London has seen in nearly 20 years, seen the wettest weather I can remember for a long time, met a parakeet (who hasn't been back!) made friends with a pair of robins and are sworn enemies of the squirrel that also frequents the garden.

They've also discovered grapes, mealworms, lettuce, raspberries and tuna and discovered they're not too fussed on raisins, raspberries, cucumber, courgettes and corn (yes, really!)

They've overcome bullying! :D (Lottie has now realised there is more than enough food to go round and Ophelia is now bigger than her so best to just keep quiet and we just don't talk about pecking orders.)

More recently, they've moved into a fab new run, met a rat (now evicted), leant to perch (that's been a long time coming!) had a doze in the shade of a bush and learnt to sunbathe.

As you'll see if you look at the photos, Ophelia is now a beautiful fully fleged breezeblock of a hen and whilst Lottie and Regan have still got a way to go - they have the most amazing characters and have come such a long way from the sad, hunched up bald and skinny little girls who turned up in November.

And we, finally have a garden back that we can actually sit in without being mobbed for grapes!

Wow what an adventure! Your girls have come on in leaps and bounds and look so much more confident and happier!

Congratulations on saving three beautiful girls and here's hoping you have much more fun to come with your little ladies.
